Viola’s Pizza, Pasta & Seafood Restaurant in the Old Napoli’s Location is Open – Review

IMG_2062

UPDATE  10/11/2014

We ordered a pizza for take out and it had a thin crust and it was fantastic! Even better than the old Napoli’s pizza.

Viola’s Pizza, Pasta and Seafood has opened in the old Napoli’s Pizza location. Under new ownership and with a bit of remodeling they are open for business.  They have reversed the bar so it looks out towards the street now and have given it a face lift and comfortable stools with backs. If you’re a local you know what we’re talking about. The whole place has gotten a fresh coat of paint and new tables, chairs and décor. It looks good!

They have a lot of the old familiar favorites on the menu from Napoli along with a few new additions.

IMG_2061We stopped in for the grand opening to try a pizza. Napoli’s was always one of my favorite pizza joints so I have been waiting patiently for the big day. The pie was good but it was definitely different than the Napoli pie. It has a much thicker chewier crust making the sauce and cheese taste less prominent. The owner mentioned they are working on keeping the thin crust of the past, so that may change once they have thrown their share of dough. As my grandmother from Naples said, “pizza dough has a mind of its own… you must learn to work with it, not against it.” I never did learn how to throw dough.

IMG_2057The couple sitting next to us ordered the Fried Calamari. They said it was fantastic and they loved that they also fried the banana peppers that came with it.

We stopped in early and saw plenty of familiar local faces there for Happy Hour. Happy Hour specials are $1.00 off draft beer and $1.50 off house wine.

If you have eaten here, please let us know what you think. we’ll keep you posted on our next pie.

Salt Life Food Shack in St Augustine FL – Restaurant Review & Menu

Salt Life is now open for lunch and dinner. We will update our information and reviews as we try new food items.

1779077_617347728335566_6124390843502454065_nThe new Salt Life Food Shack in St Augustine Beach, Florida is  “BEACHY KEEN.”

St. Augustine has been waiting for this restaurant to open for a very long time and for good reason. The food is beyond fantastic! The location across the street from St. Augustine Beach Pier doesn’t hurt either, nor do the great prices and fabulous views. From the roof top deck you have the best of both worlds; sunset on one side and the Atlantic ocean on the other.

Now that I have had the grand tour, I can see why they took a little longer to open. Perfection! The place is perfect. The decor is the signature Salt Life colors of Turquoise & watery blues mixed with a lot of Teak colored wood. It has Beach written all over it with a casual, relaxed, resort like feel. Salt Life is the perfect place to “Eat, Drink and Be Salty.” Read More→

The Best Place to Have a Drink on the Beach in Saint Augustine FL

People are always asking us  “where is a great place to have a drink on the beach in St. Augustine?”  The fact is we really don’t have a lot of choices on the beach. One great spot that myself and other locals love is The Beachcomber Restaurant on Anastasia island. It’s right on St. Augustine Beach at the A Street beach access ramp.

Nestled behind some beautiful large white sand dunes is The Beachcomber. It has an outside deck with several tables that have an ocean view. Even if you’re not at an ocean view table. You have a view of the sand dunes. These dunes are adorned with beautiful sea oats swaying in the gentle breezes that are coming off the Atlantic Ocean. No matter where you’re sitting you can hear the ocean singing to you. It’s impossible not to hear the beautiful sound of the waves crashing on to the shore.

It has a great Caribbean feel to it,  brightly colored painted picnic tables and umbrellas draw you in. The atmosphere is as casual and laid back as it gets. This is the beach life. The Beachcomber has a great view and is a fun spot to have a few beers or a glass of wine and start off your vacation. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner to0. We happen to love their fish tacos,  their fish sandwich and they have some award-winning desserts. The key lime pie is a local favorite.  If you’re looking for an appetizer, they often have fresh oysters or local shrimp specials. They don’t have a liquor license so you are limited to beer or wine here  but it’s worth it.

This is a beautiful spot to sit back with a beer and breathe in the salt air. It’s about as scenic as it gets. This ” locals favorite” will quickly become your favorite too.

Mango Mango’s Caribbean Bar and Grill- Feel Like You’re Eating in the Islands

St. Augustine restaurants aren’t always known to be consistent from day to day. However Mango’s is the exception to this rule. Ask any local and they will tell you that the food at Mango’s is exceptional every day. Mango’s is located on A1A Beach Boulevard about a block from the beach. It has a fun, casual, friendly, Caribbean atmosphere and some of the best food in Saint Augustine.
